Brian Peterson – ARCSE member, Iowa:
ARCSE Outstanding Community Service Award
This year Brian Peterson is recognized by ARCSE for his extensive volunteer contributions to school, church, community, and conservation. He and his wife reside in the small town of Corning in southwestern Iowa. After a productive career with SCS and NRCS staring in 1968, district conservationist in three county offices, area grassland conservationist, and retiring in 2009 as state grassland conservationist, Brian has continued to be very active as announcer for local school functions, FFA and Science Fair judge, Sunday School and Bible School teacher, Methodist Church committee worker and officer, usher, choir member, Rotary Club officer, Summer Festival and Christmas Lighted parades announcer, community theatre actor, member of Sheriff’s Department coffee group collecting toys and items for families in need, County Fair volunteer/announcer, contributor to local high school Vocational Agriculture class, pasture management trainer, Forage and Grassland Council Board member, water quality project development team member and trainer, and Iowa Master Farmers Association Board of Directors Historian. Brian received the Exceptional Service Award from the Master Farmer’s Association, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Adams County Cattlemen’s Association, Friend of the School Award from the Iowa School Athletic Association, and Volunteer of the Year award from the Adams County Chamber of Commerce. A very impressive community service record ARCSE is proud to acknowledge.
Deanne Lull – ARCSE State Representative, Kansas:
ARCSE Distinguished Service Award
This year Deanne Lull is recognized by ARCSE for Distinguished Service to the organization, faithfully serving as Kansas State Representative for the past 13 years. Deanne began her career with SCS/NRCS in 1959 on the Watershed Work Plan Party Staff, transitioned to the Public Affairs Staff, retiring in late 2008 with 49½ years of service, much in administrative management. She knew everyone with NRCS in the state, essentially a communication hub for the organization through time, highly capable and a delight to work with as many co-workers have attested. Her experience and networking carried over to volunteer activity with ARCSE, keeping track of all Kansas retirees, including non-ARCSE members, and new retirees. Her near 100% substantive contributions to the ARCSE Newsletter have provided a model for her peers in other states and regions for many years. Her contributions have greatly helped sustain the vitality of the ARCSE organization.
William Ward – ARCSE West Regional Vice-President:
ARCSE Distinguished Service Award
This year Bill Ward is recognized by ARCSE for Distinguished Service to the organization, serving as California State Representative for the past 12 years and West Regional Vice-President for the past 6 years. Bill retired in late 2010 after 36 years of dedicated service to SCS/NRCS, staring as a student trainee before graduating from California State University – Humboldt in Environmental Resources Engineering, then working as a Field and Area Office Engineer before
graduate work and duty as a Design Engineer in the state office, including Design Staff Leader for several years. His impact was felt through several completed Watershed projects, including substantial Emergency Watershed Project (EWP) work. Bill has brought a unique perspective to his ARCSE volunteer work, pioneering and continuing to use video conferencing for networking with fellow retirees within and beyond California. He has leveraged his skills as a musician, storyteller, and use of media to highlight conservation work in the past and present. Bill continues to be a 100% contributor of substantive articles to the ARCSE newsletter. His sustained contributions have significantly helped anchor the vibrancy of the organization.
